Veteran writer Salim Khan has refused to accept a Padma Shri award
The Padma awards 2015 which will be conferred in the next few hours are given in three categories- Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan (in ascending order of distinction) .
These awards, which are given since 1954 for exploits in wide-ranging pursuits, have often been a subject of controversy.
When contacted, Salim Khan confirmed and said, "I don't want a Padma Shri. I think it's too late and too little."
Added Salman Khan's father, "I would have accepted if it had been a Padma Bhushan."
Actor Dilip Kumar, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lyricist-adman Prasoon Joshi are also on the recipient list. It will be interesting to see which category award is given to these three celebrities from the entertainment world.
